Scoring and Finishing:

Attacking the Rim:

  • Understand the importance of footwork and timing: Perfecting the first step and using a quick change of pace to beat defenders off the dribble.

  • Utilize angles: How to attack from different angles—whether from the wing, top of the key, or baseline—to create space and opportunities for a clean finish.

  • Drive with purpose: We’ll teach how to read the defense while driving to the basket, ensuring you know when to attack and when to pull back to set up for the next move.

Contact Finishes:

  • Finishing with control: How to maintain body control in the air while absorbing contact and still making the basket.

  • Using the body: Properly using your body to shield the ball from defenders, including using the off-hand to protect and finish.

  • Strength and balance: Building the strength and core stability to finish with force while taking contact from bigger or stronger defenders.

Floaters:

When driving to the basket isn’t an option due to help defense or shot blockers, the floater is a great tool to have in your arsenal. This technique allows you to release the ball just over the outstretched arms of defenders, avoiding the block and still getting a clean shot off. We’ll focus on:

  • Proper technique: How to use the right hand positioning, release point, and follow-through to get an accurate floater.

  • Timing the floater: Knowing when to use the floater, especially when faced with shot blockers or a crowded paint.

  • Footwork and balance: How to keep your balance while coming to a stop before releasing the floater, ensuring you don’t lose control or rush the shot.

Driving Moves:

  • Eurostep: How to use a quick, deceptive step to avoid defenders and get to the basket in a fluid motion.

  • Spin move: Using a quick spin to change directions and lose the defender while maintaining control of the ball.

  • Crossover and hesitation: Mastering the crossover dribble and hesitation move to freeze defenders and get by them.

  • Dunk or layup finishes: How to finish with explosive dunks when the opportunity arises, or with a smooth layup when a more controlled finish is needed.
